The town itself is surrounded by natural parkland and still has a modicum of a secluded, cozy feel. La Zagaleta, an exclusive gated residential estate and country club overlooking the village, is within its municipal boundaries. It contributes to Benahavís’ status as the richest municipality per capita in Andalucía.
In recent years there has been extended development of the village and the surrounding area with many hundreds of dwellings being built, not only reducing the proportion of local inhabitants but also despoiling some of the beautiful landscapes in the mountains and approaches to the village.
If it is the beach that you are after, Capanes del Golf is situated around a 10 minute drive to the beaches at San Pedro. A little further on you are in Puerto Banus to the east and Estepona to the West.
And finally, shopping! Puerto Banus is around a 10/15 minute drive away with Marbella a further 5 minutes. There are numerous shops and boutiques in Puerto Banus, along with the El Corte Ingles department store.
Marbella boast’s the huge La Canada shopping centre with over 300 shops. You should be able to find anything that you are looking for here. San Pedro is a quiet and tranquil town, a true slice of traditional Spain. It is one of the most untouched corners of the Costa del Sol and a Spanish stronghold that has successfully defended itself from the waves of property development that has washed along the coast in recent years. On the world stage, San Pedro de Alcántara is as unknown as can be. There are no travel agent's windows plastered with discounted ´package holiday´ offers, and here are no Facebook postings of 'Legendary' weekends spent tearing up the streets. San Pedro de Alcántara is content to stay serenely under the radar. Famous for its climate with 325 days of sunshine per year, average temperatures rarely drop below double digits.
The Playa San Pedro de Alcántara features a long straight and wide beach, with a lovely promenade where you can enjoy cycling, or taking a leisurely stroll. The best part is the beach is never crowded due to its size, and its high standards of cleanliness and the facilities are recognised by the Blue Flag award. For potential investors & property buyers the news lately has been fantastic when it comes to a revival in the Costa del Sol’s property sector. Reports are pouring in about how foreign investors are continuing to fuel the property market, even after the shock ´Brexit´ vote. When we compare to the UK and Scandinavian costs of living, Spain remains one of the lowest in Europe. In some areas, the cost of owning a San Pedro property is very low, especially within urbanisations with low maintenance and admin fees. All you need is the right advice from the right estate agent in San Pedro.
